The moon had just risen, it's silver gleam stretching across the pavement in all directions. It burned bright light everywhere, except in the shadows behind the buildings, under the trees and under the rocks and such. It was in these shadows that Selena lay. She was crouched behind the worn building at the corner of a street, it's walls smeared with New York grime and smudged graffiti. The building was rectangular, longer than it was tall, with a shallow interior of a mere eight feet. The edges were chipped and broken, worn down by the wind that slammed into it, and the lack of human care.
Keeping her breath very shallow, Selena sprang from behind the building, dashing across the street and into the long, savannah-like grass that marked the park. Her mind whirred with the possibility of being bitten, or worse, slaughtered by the tainted that prowled the night. Thinking back, she had always hated them, even though her father was one. She had never believed him when he told her that she was untainted, that he had bitten after she had been conceived. What would she tell the others, that her father was tainted? No, that wouldn't do. They would kick her out, tell her to go live with them. They would snarl at her, call her mangy half-blood. Traitor. Abomination. Would she ever find a place where she would fit in?
She almost smiled to herself at the thought. It sent shivers down her spine, tingling her paws and inwardly laugh with giddy glee. A grin had tugged at the corners of her mouth, but she quickly silenced them, drawing her lips back into a serious frown. No way was she going to give in now.
Turning her attention back to the "field" behind her, she disappeared back into the grass, trotting at a hastened and attentive pace west toward the tree grove. This was her haven for now. Even though the tree's leaves had long overgrown their branches, and the bark was now gnarled and scarred with the constant claw, antler, and other creatures rubbing or scraping, it was still home to her.
Her ears perked as she reached the willow which she favored. She liked it best because the long, thin, wispy leaves reached the ground on all sides. They were so dense, that not even the breeze could stir them, though it allowed it through, they did not shift or move, creating almost perfect cover. Eager to sleep, she trotted back and forth to weave a complex scent trail, then stepped across the leaf barrier and nestled against the trunk for the night.

/is replying after much confusion. I'm kinda slow at times. x.x/ A fluffy male dog padded softly through the territory in which all the Pure dogs' packs shared. His chocolate brown eyes gazed at the sky and he put on a small smile. It was a lovely day and the sun was shining brightly and reassuring all the dogs that the Tainted creatures wouldn't come out. Seth stopped and shook out his pelt before stretching and walking on. His ears pricked up at a sound and he shrunk to the ground. He saw a small pigeon flutter around. It's once plump body was slim and mangy looking now. Seth licked his lips at the thought of food and wagged the tip of his plumy tail. The brute's ears were now pricked forward and his eyes stared into the pigeon. His true colors were showing; the determination, cunning skill, and hunting instinct were kicking in now. He stepped lighty forward and then his velvet padded foot. Seth growled and the grey hued bird flashed it's beady eyes towards him. The border collie jumped forward in a lightning quick flash and the snap of teeth was heard.
Seth's bluey grey and white pelt was now covered with twigs and he set down the limp bird. He pulled some twigs out of his long fur and spit them to the ground. The alpha male dipped his head down and picked up the bird. He pulled the nice scent of bird into his nostrils and pushed through the shrubs. Seth's brown eyes now lifted above the tall grasses height as did his head and he looked around. The male stood on his hind legs, balancing, and then tottered to the side before setting all four legs to the ground. He gripped the bird tighter and then a scent reached the collie's nose that wasn't prey. Seth pricked his ears up and then broke into a slow trot. It was Selena, his deputy. The canine trotted forward steadily now with the prey still in his jaws. His paws made small tap, tap, tap sounds on the sidewalk that ran through the park. Then a flitting shape came into view.
Seth dropped the pigeon and let out a yip to his most trusted dog. She was already into the depths of the willow's whispy branches though. Seth picked up the creature once more and pushed forward, feet making a steady rhythm. His dark colored eyes flashed as he saw a movement around a bush a few feet away. The male let out a deep growl but then stopped when he saw it was a lean cat probably trying to find food. Seth rolled his eyes and pushed through the hanging branches of the tree. He saw the fae pressed against the tree trunk. The male then padded lighty forward. He set the pigeon in front of her.
You hungry?

The black and white she-dog's eyelids fluttered open, her sharp, inky black eyes locking onto the bulky shadow that stood before her, under the willow. She jerked her head up, looking into the familiar face of Seth. It all came back to her. That's right. She did have someone she knew, someone who accepted her. Being alone, by herself in the night, often brought back the more grotesque memories stored in the crevices of her mind. Coming back to reality, she realized she had done it again. She grinned up at him, a wide, toothy grin that caused her eyes to dance in the fading light as clouds rolled across the moon.
Not really, no. She gestured toward the limb and bleeding pigeon, You can have it.
Hesitantly, she rose, drawing her front paws up slowly till she sat, her hind feet still sprawled underneath her in an uncomfortable position. The air under the willow was still, slightly damp, and when she thought about it, was thickly masked in her scent. Everywhere a part of her essence rested. On the grass tips, all over the twisted bark of the tree, the leaves, even the branches higher up that entwined into the blossoming canopy of green that rose above her. She blew air out of her nose in a soundless laugh, lifting her gaze to meet her leader.
He was handsome, if anything. He had crisp white fur, with soft grey and black spots dotting his face, ears and back. His eyes were bright amber, the first thing one would look at, because they stole all the attention of anyone looking at him.
Any news? she asked with sincere curiosity.

Seth flashed a small smile back at the fae and then pushed the bird closer to her. You take half. We all need to keep our strength up. The male's lyrics were soft in the dim light. He turned brown eyes up towards the moon. The sounds of the tainted had reached his ears and he was glad that the Pure had been dunked into gasoline that afternoon. Seth sighed and looked back at Selena. His gaze softened at the pretty female. He was glad for the company. He hated night time, creatures prowling around everywhere. He glared through the gently swaying branches. Seth hated how he couldn't see them. The sharp patter of rain came down and the soft colored dog jumped at it's sudden start. He was very nervous lately but being with a packmate made him a little calmer. The brute took a small bite from the bird's body and then flicked his ears. He lowered to the ground next to his deputy though and laid down. Seth chewed on his small chunk of meat.
He heard Selena's voice. Any news? the male looked at her with dirt hued orbs and thought for a minute, thinking out his answer. Before he was to speak a loud and eerie howl came from nearby. The border collie growled and his hackles raised. The Tainted were near but he knew they would come around them with the gasoline masking their scent and the stuff guarding them from the infected dogs. Seth glanced around as if something was going to leap out and bite him. He finally settled down a little. He looked to the femme and then towards the ground. How could he explain. The brute looked up at her with a troubled gaze.
I'm concerned. I haven't had any accidents with the tainted dogs in a long time. I don't know what they are planning but it can't be good...
Seth licked his paws gently to get the dust and dirt off of them. His brown eyes narrowed. He had heard a rustling from outside the boundary of their safe tree shelter. The dog considered his instinct to flee but the hardship of life had made the dogs smarter. He knew that the rain would wash the gasoline away. The Tainted knew this too. Seth could now see the faint red light of their eyes shining barely through the willow's branches. The male let out a savage snarl and the red glowing orbs disappeared. he was getting tired of the nightly torment of the Tainted.

Black topaz met murky mud brown, c causing Selena to duck her head away shyly. She nodding slowly, absently picking at the stomach feathers, chewing through the soft underbelly. The rich aroma of the liver wafted through the air, filling her nostrils and sending tendrils of glee down through her gasoline damp fur. Feeling self-conscious, mostly that she should not stand while her leader lay, she lowered herself back into the nook in the tree, curling up against Seth's back, so she could watch during the long night ahead.
I see. If it eases your mind any, I saw a pack of them last night, patrolling the entire east part of the city. I'm not sure what they were up to, but they were obviously guarding something. Heavily guarding it.
She shifted slightly in the grass at the vibrating against her back coming from Seth, following by the throaty grow. She relaxed slightly as the howls from outside faded into the night air, though the fur along her spine still stood erect, reminding her of her wariness she had never quite shaken off. She heaved a deep sigh, pressing herself closer to the warmth behind her. She couldn't help herself really, she always felt exposed at night, and there was no way she would let her guard down. Not even for a second. The closer she was to Seth, or another member of the pure, the higher her chance of survival.
She shifted slightly, tucking her paws under the forelegs, and drawing her hind legs under her stomach, preparing for an immediate flight if need be. Though it was unlikely, the Tainted never came through the wispy leaves the shielded her and Seth. The area was thick with gasoline anyway, and what light did come through the leaves, was reflected off the ground and was amplified to expose everywhere, creating a sort of glowing blue or gold, depending on the time of day, or night, that was constantly present.

The soft grey and black spotted male lifted his head and looked into the fae's lovely black hued eyes. He flashed a small grin as she ducked her head away. His teeth shown a little out of his mouth as the grin lit Seth's face. He licked Selena's cheek gingerly and then set his head on his paws heavily. Leading a whole pack of dogs was hard for a one year old border collie. Most of the dogs were defiant and power hungry. They had only joined because Seth was the one accepting dogs to join him and help them. He closed his eyes for a moment and letting the warmth of Selena's body at his side comfort him. Then she spoke. Seth opened one brown eye. I see. If it eases your mind any, I saw a pack of them last night, patrolling the entire east part of the city. I'm not sure what they were up to, but they were obviously guarding something. Heavily guarding it.
The greyish male stood up bristling. Why hadn't she told him earlier? Ease his mind?!?!? not with the vile dogs guarding something. Seth sighed and looked up at the black and white pelted femme. His gaze was tired but he wasn't giving up. Seth sat down and wrapped his plumy tail around his paws. What do you suppose they were doing? His voice was soft. The brute was tired, the day was long with nothing in return. No Tainted dogs, no new food sources, nothing. He looked at the ground and pawed at a leaf that was a light green hue. Seth was getting tired though and his eyelids drooped down slowly. The canine pulled his orbs open again but his bdy slowly dropped yto the ground in exhaustion. He closed his eyes and waited for Selena's reply.

Selena looked over at the white, peppered gray male behind her. He was obviously tired, exhausted more rather, and yet, still he fought. Still he pushed himself to succeed. The black and white she-dog shook her head slowly, a deep sigh escaping from between her teeth. The cold suddenly touched her back, causing her to stir. She snapped her eyes open, her head following him as he stood. I'm not sure, sorry. It had to be someone, or something of great importance, though. Maybe a new weapon of some sorts that can disable our defenses. A simple roll of her shoulders indicated a shrug followed.
Her gaze followed him up, her eyes emanating concern. She slowly drew herself up, standing also, and walking toward him, which wasn't far. She stopped when she stood next to him, burying her face into his neck fur and murmuring, It'll be alright. Promise. Now will you please get some sleep?

The grey dog yawned at looked tiredly at Selena. Her beautiful black and white pelt was covered with shattered shafts of moonlight. He smiled as her lovely figure was illuminated my the moon's eerie yet serene light. His chocolate shaded orbs were just barely opened slits. Seth was about to curl up into a ball and sleep when Selena's voice hit his ears. I'm not sure, sorry. It had to be someone, or something of great importance, though. Maybe a new weapon of some sorts that can disable our defenses. Seth growled as he lifted his head. A new weapon? Great, the Tainted rats were thinking of more ways to harm the Pure dogs. The brute looked at Selena, standing before him.
At least he had her. Seth smiled when the fae padded over to him and pressed into his fluffy neck fur. The male felt comforted for a brief moment and the comforting sound of his deputy's voice also helped the tired male relax. It'll be alright. Promise. Now will you please get some sleep? Seth grinned at the last comment. He then flicked brown orbs to black and spoke. Only if you get some rest also. Seth licked her ear gingerly. The canine's head then dropped to his paws and a soft snoring came from is slightly opened maw.
